CLIL Network Home Implementation FAQs Links Contact us CLIL Professional Learning Opportunities ​ MLTAV CLIL NETWORK WORKSHOP A one day workshop will be held on Monday 18 November 2019 to support teachers interested in exploring the Year 7 Science CLIL units in more detail and using the CLIL planning templates to design their own CLIL Units of Work. Teachers will be supported to develop their own Unit of Work for any year level and area of the curriculum. Time: 9am - 3.30pm Venue: TBC Cost: $50 MLTAV member $100 non-member A special offer is available to a limited number of teachers in Victorian government schools to access a $150 grant to contribute to CRT costs to enable them to attend this workshop. Various CLIL resources are available here . Also the first series of CLIL modules developed by teachers who completed the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Course provided by the Victorian Department of Education and Training, are now available via this link . These modules formed part of their assessment as participants of the CLIL Course. ​​ Maths through Languages: NEW Digital Stories MLTAV was invited by the Victorian Department of Education and Training to create 2 clips showcasing Maths through Languages. These CLIL clips are available on the DET Numeracy Portal: - Maths through Chinese (Year 1/2 students at Knox Park PS) - Maths through German (Year 3/4 students at Carrum PS) Click below to access the: ​- German lesson plan - unit of work linked to the Chinese lesson. This unit is also available in French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese and Spanish. CLIL in Action Digital Story​ This clip features the German program at Bayswater Sth Primary School. It highlights the way in which the CLIL approach is used to teach a range of content areas including Maths and Performing Arts through German. ​This clip introduces the Spanish CLIL program at Westgarth Primary School. All F-6 students at Westgarth engage in Discovery (Science and Humanities) and Visual Arts through Spanish. Junior students also participate in Music classes taught in Spanish. The school leadership and school community value the contribution that the CLIL approach provides for supporting student language development and engagement in learning. This digital story is one of 8 created by MLTAV with funding from the Victorian Department of Education (DET) to profile Best-practice in Languages Education in Victorian Schools ​The Spanish CLIL program at Westgarth Primary School has a fantastic blog sharing teaching and learning resources used in their Art, Science and Performing Arts programs. They hosted a MLTAV CLIL Network workshop at their school in September 2017 which provided an opportunity for teachers to observe their CLIL programs and engage in CLIL PL. Some examples are also included below: St Stephen's ES Spanish CLIL Year 3/4 Spanish Unit on Rainforests NEW CLIL RESOURCES: UK The UK Association for Language Learning website has a number of Primary CLIL Resources. The materials are available for a range of languages and include ideas for teaching about Water Use, Solar System as well as a range of other concepts. ​​Dr Ruth Fielding and Prof Lesley Harbon presented a paper at the 2017 AFMLTA International Languages Conference on their research into the 4 NSW CLIL Programs. STEM/CLIL Resources and Projects from the Goethe-Institut Australien FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS: Digital Kinder University The digital Kinder University is an innovative educational project for children aged 8-12. A key aspect of the Kinder University is its online platform which is accessible to everyone free of charge. Students of the online university can explore 30 different video lectures in three faculties: Humankind, Nature and Technology. The Kinder University is based on children's innate interest in anything that is unfamiliar and at the same time introduces them to the German language. www.goethe.de/au/kinderuni The Kinder University live On 22 November 2019, the University of Melbourne opens its doors to local kids. Primary school students, teachers and parents are invited to experience an event packed with science. For one day, kids will step into the shoes of university students, taking part in workshops and lectures and conducting fun experiments with German speaking researchers. https://www.goethe.de/ins/au/en/spr/unt/kal.cfm?fuseaction=events.detail&event_id=21628893 My bean plant – the lifecycle of a plant This CLIL unit combines German and biology lessons and is suitable for students in years 3 & 4. In 7 lessons, the children learn how to grow a bean plant. They observe the germination process and learn to describe this process in German. https://www.goethe.de/ins/au/en/spr/unt/kum/cli/cli/ste/mb.html FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS: Schools for sustainability: A year 7-12 competition Teams of students explore the ecological situation in their place of residence, street or school. With concrete ideas and actions, they draw the public's attention to the existing ecological situation. Registration deadline: 21 October 2019 www.goethe.de/au/sustainability Thema Energie: A CLIL Unit for Year 7 & 8 students In this CLIL unit year 7 & 8 students explore how countries like Australia and Germany create electricity. They investigate the consequences of our energy consumption for the earth, learn about the development of renewable energies and analyse ways to save energy. https://www.goethe.de/ins/au/en/spr/unt/kum/cli/cli/ste/te.html Workshop on sustainable development The concept of sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in various areas of our society, be it in food consumption, education, species protection, mobility or fair trade. Against this background, the Goethe-Institut developed resources for an interactive workshop on sustainability. At four stations, students use texts, listening comprehension or film clips to learn about different aspects of the topic and work on small tasks. https://www.goethe.de/ins/au/en/spr/unt/kum/cli/cli/ste/wtn.html ​ CLIL Science Units of Work: Available Now ​ ​DET has supported the MLTAV to work with CLIL teachers to develop a comprehensive suite of resources for implementing a Year 7 Science CLIL Unit. ​These resources are now available on FUSE for the following languages: ​- Chinese - French - German - Indonesian - Italian - Japanese - Spanish - English (available for teachers to adapt to other languages) The packages include the unit planner (aligned to the Victorian Curriculum) and all teacher and student resources for a 10 -12 week unit on Scientific Method and States of Matter.
